Filter sand 20 x 40 – 0.42 to 0.84 mm

FT-AR-20X40

Filter sand 20 x 40

0.42 to 0.84 mm

Filter sand for water: quartz and silica by grain size · view all (7)

20 x 40 quartz sand, 0.42 to 0.84 mm, the standard grading for the filter layer of rapid filters in water treatment plants. Washed, dried and screened, with 95 to 99% SiO₂ and a batch report with grading curve, effective size and uniformity coefficient.

  • Narrow grain range: clogs slowly and comes back clean after backwash
  • Hard quartz (Mohs 7): does not wear or turn to dust in use
  • No clay, organic matter or carbonates: adds no colour or hardness to the water
  • Batch report to check against the filter specification
  • 25 kg bags, 1 t big bags or bulk, anywhere in Brazil

How to choose

  • Order the sand by the filter design: grading (range in mm or mesh), effective size and uniformity coefficient.
  • New bed: build from the bottom up, from coarsest to finest grain, levelling each layer before the next.
  • Before putting the filter into service, backwash until the water runs clear: it removes the fine dust from the charge.
  • Store the bags covered and on pallets: wet sand weighs more and cakes.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used in a dual-media filter with anthracite?

Yes. It is the sand layer that sits under the anthracite. The anthracite comes separately, in the grading of the design, and being lighter it settles on top after backwash.

How many kilos go into one cubic metre of bed?

Between 1.5 and 1.6 tonnes of dry sand per m³ of bed*. Multiply the filter area by the layer depth and add 5% for losses in the first backwash.
